During A Traffic Stop

  • Keep both hands on wheel unless told to do otherwise.
  • Tell your passengers to remain silent. They do not have to answer any questions.
  • Give the officer your drivers license, insurance, and registration. DO NOT answer any other questions.
  • If the officer asks, “Is there any reason why I can’t search your car?”Say: “No, but I don’t consent.”

If Stopped on Foot...

  • DO NOT answer friendly questions like: “Where are you going?”
  • If an officer stops you on the street and asks questions, they are looking for a reason to arrest you.
  • Instead of answering questions, ask “Am I under arrest, detained, or am I free to go?”
  • DO NOT be tricked into making a statement.
  • If you are detained, you are not required to answer questions. Request a BRCK Attorney, and then remain silent
  • DO NOT give fake information such as name or date of birth.

Anytime

  • Police are valuable public servants, but they are not your friends.
  • DO NOT argue or curse with officers. This will only intensify the situation and can be used against you later on.
  • If you are arrested, ask for an attorney IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT answer any questions or make any statements.
  • DO NOT make statements about the incident to anyone other than a BRCK Attorney.

  • DO NOT be coerced into pleading GUILTY or “NO CONSENT” under any circumstances.
