Know what to do if stopped by Police
Stopped by the police?
During A Traffic Stop
Keep both hands on wheel unless told to do otherwise.
Tell your passengers to remain silent. They do not have to answer any questions.
Give the officer your drivers license, insurance, and registration.
DO NOT
answer any other questions.
If the officer asks, “Is there any reason why I can’t search your car?”Say:
“No, but I don’t consent.”
If Stopped on Foot...
DO NOT
answer friendly questions like: “Where are you going?”
If an officer stops you on the street and asks questions, they are looking for a reason to arrest you.
Instead of answering questions, ask “Am I under arrest, detained, or am I free to go?”

be tricked into making a statement.
